Congratulations to Jacob Reid, Megan Costall and Penny Healey on their selection for the World Archery Youth Championships 2021.

The World Archery Youth Championships will take place in Wroclaw, Poland from 9-15 August.

From David Anderson New County Chair.

Having recently taken over the role of County Chair from Simon Nelms. I thought it best to introduce myself. I am a relative newcomer to the sport of Archery having only been shooting for 7 years. I am member at Croesoswallt Archers and being kept busy with coaching being a Level 2 coach.

We have another change on the Committee with Brian Eades of Allscott Heath Archers has taken over the role of Records Officer from John Poole – many thanks John for all your time and efforts in keeping the county records up-to-date.

Tim Swane has been re-elected as the County Coaching Officer for the year ending 2022.

ArcheryGB have undergone a re-organisation and created the Role of Regional Development Officer (RDO) to assist Counties and clubs to get back to archery after the difficult year we have all endured.  The RDO for WMAS is Helen Smedley.

I am sure you are glad like me to be back shooting and very good to hear that most clubs in the County are back and able to shoot.  In terms of getting back to shooting ArcheryGB have launched a Big Re-Opening Weekend for 7th - 9th May. They have also launched their Big Archery Week  5th - 11th July.  I would encourage all clubs to join up to this event to promote archery in your local community.

We have the following shoots tentatively booked into the Calendar – although this is subject as everything seems to be these days to the Government and ArcheryGB Guidelines, with the next announcement on restrictions being May 17th. When we hear we will of course let you all know what effect this has on clubs.

With regards to the Shropshire Junior Team Manager, Lyn Anderson has taken on this role from Ray Fisher and I would like to thank Ray for a very successful tenure as the Junior Team Manager and hope to see him soon at future shoots.  Some of our Juniors will be classed as Seniors this year, this means Lyn will be looking for new recruits to the squad. If there any who wish to shoot competitively for the County please do let Lyn know - email: lynja@me.com

I have taken over the role of Senior Team Manager from Simon and in the same vein any Senior Archers who would like to shoot for the County, please let me know. I can be contacted via the Website or my email – DavidGAnderson15@outlook.com

Next year with life hopefully back to somewhere near normal we are hoping to have other Intercounty shoots outside of WMAS.

Postal League

Hi all,

I hope you’re all keeping well at the moment? I’m emailing from Morecambe Bay Archers (Cumbria County Archery Association) with an entry form for the summer postal league we’re running between June and October.

There’s also no entry fee, as we’re looking to encourage people to participate. For the league, archers will need to submit their best Frostbite score each month.

There are digital certificates for the top three archers in each category each month, as well as at the end of the tournament. There is also a medal for the overall winner of each category.

All archers and bowstyles are welcome to participate, and we’re running novice categories for archers in their first two years of shooting. The main thing we want is for people to have a fun and friendly challenge.

Entry form here - https://drive.google.com/.../16yS9pr.../view... Facebook event - https://www.facebook.com/events/984895592048242?ref=newsfeed

Socially Distanced Members Open Day

Last July 2020 Croesoswallt relocated from the RJAH Hospital Grounds, Gobowen to The British Iron Works in Oswestry. After some hard work by the members preparing the ranges they held their Big Open Day in early August.  October 2020 saw Croesoswallt host the Shropshire County Clout which will now be the permanent venue for this event.  This year plans are a foot to host both the Silver Dollar & a Heritage shoot all being well of course with Covid-19 restrictions.

Since relocating, Croesoswallt has already seen its membership increase significantly. The 10 acre site has a main target range with all distances from 20 to 100 yards & all alternative meter distances too.  A separate beginners range & a 180 yard clout range.

Regular taster sessions & beginners course will be available throughout the year.  For more details:-   Croesoswallt Archers
